University of Mississippi Health Care has a proud history of transplantation. The first-ever auto-kidney transplant, lung transplant and heart transplants were performed by Dr. James Hardy at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) between 1962 and 1964.
In 2007, the kidney and heart transplant programs at UMHC joined as University Transplant. Currently, adult heart and kidney (living donor and cadaveric transplants) are performed at UMHC. University Transplant offers the state's only transplant services. We are committed to offering a full range of solid organ transplant services to the residents of Mississippi.
Easy access to care for our patients is important to us. For patients who live greater than one hour from Jackson, we provide a local hotel room for evaluation services and immediate post-transplant care.
The mission of University Transplant is to provide the highest quality transplant services and outcomes with exemplary patient care to improve the health and well-being of the patients while providing an intellectual and challenging learning and research environment for the students, residents, faculty and staff.
The vision of the University Transplant is to be a respected, comprehensive, nationally recognized, multi-organ transplant center that will enhance the health and well-being of the citizens of the state of Mississippi.
