Health Care Services

Transplant Service

Program Description

University of Mississippi Health Care has a proud history of transplantation. The first-ever auto-kidney transplant, lung transplant and heart transplants were performed by Dr. James Hardy at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) between 1962 and 1964.

In 2007, the kidney and heart transplant programs at UMHC joined as University Transplant. Currently, adult heart and kidney (living donor and cadaveric transplants) are performed at UMHC. University Transplant offers the state's only transplant services. We are committed to offering a full range of solid organ transplant services to the residents of Mississippi.

Easy access to care for our patients is important to us. For patients who live greater than one hour from Jackson, we provide a local hotel room for evaluation services and immediate post-transplant care.
