University Hospitals and Health System

University Hospitals and Health System (UHHS) is the part of UMHC that encompasses hospitals and clinical practice sites across the state of Mississippi. Named a Thomson Top 100 Hospital for 2007, UHHS is the only Level I trauma center in the state. It includes University Hospital, the Winfred L. Wiser Hospital for Women & Infants, the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children, the Wallace A. Conerly Hospital for Critical Care and the UHHS Ambulatory Clinics.

Our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) also has the only Level III (top-rated) care rating in Mississippi. UHHS offers adult specialty services including high-risk obstetrics, medical toxicology, interventional cardiology and interventional MRI. The three adult hospitals serve over 27,000 inpatients each year. Outpatient clinic and emergency room visits total more than 300,000 each year.

UHHS also offers AirCare helicopter transport services between Mississippi hospitals and UHHS. This resource gives residents of the state access to the highest levels of care in emergency or trauma situations.

University Hospital

The University Hospital is the flagship hospital UHHS with 256 beds for adult patient care. Specialty services include complete cardiac care, a stroke unit, an artificial kidney unit and Mississippi’s only transplant center with heart, kidney, bone marrow and cornea services. A part of the University Hospital, the 70-bed Wallace R. Conerly Critical Care hospital features specialized intensive care for medical, cardiac, surgical and neuroscience patients.

Winfred L. Wiser Hospital for Women & Infants

The 160-bed Winfred L. Wiser Hospital for Women & Infants offers complete care for women and infants. Women have access to specialized obstetric and gynecologic services including maternal/fetal medicine, urogynecology, in vitro fertilization, reproductive endocrinology and gynecologic oncology. Infants receive the highest level of care available in Mississippi through the Level III neonatal intensive care unit.

Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children

The Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children is Mississippi’s only children’s hospital. Included in the 130-bed facility are areas for physical therapy, infant care, treatment rooms, bone marrow transplantation, a pediatric pharmacy, a children’s surgical suite, and the state’s only pediatric emergency room and intensive care unit. The Mississippi Children’s Cancer Clinic is located on the ground floor of the hospital. The Eli Manning Children’s Clinics at the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children opened in May, 2009. Batson inpatient and outpatient visits totaled over 150,000 last year.

UHHS Ambulatory Clinics

UHHS includes clinical practice sites all over the state. Services are offered in seven specialty clinics at the Jackson Medical Mall, the UMMC Cancer Institute and multiple sites around Jackson and in smaller communities across Mississippi.

University Physicians

The UMHC faculty practice plan, University Physicians, features over 400 physicians from The University of Mississippi Medical Center. Our doctors offer the widest range of specialty services in Mississippi. Over 100 of our physicians were named to the Best Doctors in America 2007-2008 list. Our physicians practice at sites all over the state of Mississippi. Our largest site is the UMHC Medical Pavilion on the main campus of UMMC. Over 280,000 patients received care from University Physicians last year.

Holmes County

UHHS’ scope of service reaches out at the community level with the Holmes County Hospital and Clinics location in Lexington, Miss. The Holmes County Long Term Care Center–Durant provides extended care for the residents of Holmes County, Miss.
