Services

Following a half century of leadership in Mississippi in cancer care, education and research, the University of Mississippi Medical Center raised cancer services to a new level with the January 2004 opening of Phase I of the UMMC Cancer Institute. Today, adult cancer patients have access to a broad array of outpatient services in one convenient location. Outpatient care for children with malignancies is provided in the Mississippi Children’s Cancer Clinic, a 17,750-square-foot facility designed to meet the specific needs of children with cancer and other blood diseases. Comprehensive inpatient services for both adult and pediatric patients are provided in state-of-the-art facilities.

Physicians and staff throughout UMMC are dedicated to providing patients the very best in cancer care. By bringing oncology services together under the umbrella of the Cancer Institute, UMMC can provide a more seamless system of care and greater coordination and collaboration among many disciplines in caring for patients.

The mission of the Cancer Institute is threefold: to provide state-of -the-art comprehensive cancer treatment that maximizes the quality of life for patients and their families; to educate oncology professionals to serve as a resource for cancer care throughout the state; and to support basic and clinical research that can be readily translated and applied to clinical cancer care. Our vision is to create an integrated program in patient care, research and education of such significance to become the state’s first National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.
