Friday night injury clinic
When Friday night lights lead to Friday night injuries, University Sports Medicine is there to help. An after-hours clinic at University Physicians Pavilion offers quick evaluation and treatment for high school football players injured on the field. The clinic is staffed from 9 p.m.-midnight during high school football season.
Athletic trainer services
Certified athletic trainers are available to provide education, evaluation and act as a liaison between young athletes, parents, coaches and physicians.
Services
Pre-participation physicals
Physicals are offered several times a year for young sports participants.
Practice attendance and follow-up visits
Visits are made to participating schools to follow up on injuries and evaluate new concerns. Our staff also attends daily sports practices for those schools to help ensure the health and safety of our athletes.
Athletic event coverage
University Sports Medicine provides medical services for school athletic programs (tournaments, games, practices, etc.) and community sporting events (youth tournaments, soccer exhibitions, marathons, cycling, etc.), including injury education, evaluation and treatment and fast-track appointments with orthopaedic surgeons and family physicians. The program includes physician coverage on football field sidelines.
Student athlete trainer education
University Sports Medicine hosts a student athletic training program to educate high school students about the body’s makeup and rehabilitation while inspiring them to pursue a career in the medical field. Students are exposed to a variety of medical professionals, including physicians, physical therapists, nurses and other health care providers. Each month students come together for discussions and hands-on activities such as taping, splinting, spine boarding, CPR and the AED use.
