A renowned group of University of Mississippi Health Care physicians, scientists and other specialists is dedicated to a single goal – fighting cancer and its effects on patients and their families. We help treat cancer through a highly coordinated and specialized sphere of services: University Cancer Care. Our multidisciplinary team of skilled surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and allied health care professionals offer state-of-the-art treatment for malignancies and suspected malignancies.
We organize patient care through weekly team conferences, where patients’ specific medical needs are evaluated and managed. This team approach means patients benefit from a full array of cancer specialists. It also means doctors scrutinize treatment options and the latest research so they can recommend the most advanced procedures and appropriate clinical trials. This enables them to present a jointly formulated treatment plan that coordinates all aspects of care to enable the best possible outcome.
There is still much to learn about cancer. Innovation and discovery are a key part of the mission of UMHC as an academic medical center. When appropriate, we offer clinical trials of investigational treatments or diagnostic tests. We are members of several National Cancer Institute cooperative groups that sponsor nationwide clinical trials. We also offer industry-sponsored clinical trials and investigator-initiated trials led by our own clinicians and collaborative trials with other academic medical centers.
In addition, University Cancer Care facilities are equipped with the latest technology to offer high-tech care through physicians and employees who are committed to both the patient's emotional and physical wellness.
