Heart Failure Accreditation

It recognizes UMHC's expertise and commitment to providing quality emergency care for patients with symptoms of heart failure.

2011

Best Regional Hospital, U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News logo NEW -2011University of Mississippi Health Care was recognized by U.S. News & World Report for inclusion in its annual report of top regional facilities. UMHC tied for the honor as top hospital in the Jackson metro area. It also stands out nationally in cancer, nephrology and orthopaedics services in the 2011-12 report.

Raising Awareness in Stroke Excellence

RAISE award - logoThe National Stroke Association selected the University of Mississippi Health Care multidisciplinary team as a recipient of the inaugural Raising Awareness in Stroke Excellence (RAISE) Award. The UMHC team, recognized as Outstanding Group, was one of six winners honored for their commitment to stroke education.

The RAISE Award program gives national recognition to individuals and groups who show commitment and innovation towards stroke awareness efforts. Over the past year, the UMHC team has been responsible for performing risk assessments and educating more than 6,000 people through community outreach activities.

ACTION-GWTG Heart Gold Performance Achievement Award

Action-gold logo 2011UMHC consistently followed the treatment guidelines in ACTION Registry - "Get With the Guidelines" for eight consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 85 percent for specific performance measures to receive this 2011 award.

The program is a sponsorship between the American College of Cardiology Foundation and American Heart Association with partnering support from the American College of Emergency Physicians, Society of Chest Pain Centers and the Society of Hospital Medicine.

Accredited Level 4 Epilepsy Center

NAEC logoUniversity of Mississippi Health Care's Epilepsy Center is recognized by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) as a Level 4 epilepsy center. Level 4 centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

Accredited CARF facility for pediatric and adult rehabilitation

carf_award_1The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities is an independent nonprofit accreditor of health and human services in areas including child and youth services and medical rehabilitation. UMHC is recognized for both its adults' and children's programs.

Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI

chest pain 2011 - logoUniversity of Mississippi Health Care and its emergency department received accreditation by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. It recognizes UMHC's outstanding efforts as a chest pain center with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Best Place to Work

Best place to work award - logoUniversity of Mississippi Health Care's network of physicians, known as University Physicians, was recognized by Mississippi Business Journal in its annual "Best Places to Work in Mississippi" report. University Physicians earned the honor in 2010 and 2011.

Kidney Transplant Bronze Medal of Honor

transplant_bronzeThis was bestowed upon UMHC by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services at the 2009 National Learning Congress. The award recognized the hospital and physician system for its commitment to saving lives through kidney implantation. UMHC offers the only kidney transplant center in the state.

Innovation Award

mha_awardUniversity of Mississippi Health Care was recognized for its eICU℠ program by the Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA). The association is a statewide trade organization dedicated to effectively serving the health care needs of Mississippi by serving its hospitals and their employees.

Environmental Hero State Government Recycler of the Year

Hospital generic award - logoThis honor was bestowed on UMMC by the Mississippi Recycling Coalition for its strides in recycling and energy conservation. Since 2008, UMMC has taken initiatives in energy-saving lightbulbs, an automated energy management system, recycling paper, cardboard, aluminum and plastic containers. The medical center also has reduced its amount of garbage as well as its volume of medical/infectious waste.

Hospital generic award - logoThis recognition was bestowed by the Mississippi Nurses Association (MNA). The MNA leads the nation with the largest percentage of nurses as members among the non-union states associated with American Nurses Association. The association is the voice of registered nurses in the state.
