What is UMHC?

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) has a threefold mission: education, patient care and research. University of Mississippi Health Care (UMHC) represents the patient care arm of the institution’s mission. UMHC is comprised of three entities: University Hospitals and Health System (UHHS), Batson Children’s Hospital and University Physicians (UP). UHHS includes the adult University Hospital, Conerly Critical Care Hospital, Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants, Holmes County Hospital and Clinics and the hospital-based ambulatory care areas of UMHC. The children's hospital includes pediatric care services and hospital-based ambulatory care areas. University Physicians is the physician practice that supports UMHC.

Who leads UMHC?

UMHC, UHHS, Batson Children’s Hospital and University Physicians all have leadership responsible for quality patient care. Direction is provided by:

  • Dr. James Keeton - Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine
  • David G. Putt, FACHE - Chief Executive Officer, UHHS.
  • Guy Giesecke - Chief Executive Officer, Batson Children’s Hospital.
  • Dana Habers - Interim Chief Executive Officer, University Physicians.
